Chicago – The 2013-2014 Robert Morris University Athletics season is set to begin this week with the fall sports kicking off all across the Midwest to make for an exciting and busy week for Eagles fans. Five teams begin their quests this week for a conference championship and a berth to the NAIA National Tournament.
The Women's Golf team and first-year head coach and former RMU golfer Andrea Falco have the honor of the first NAIA competition of the year when it competes in the Madonna University Invitational on Monday, August 26th and Tuesday, August 27th in Livonia, Michigan. The Eagles keep busy during the opening week as they take part in the Carthage College Invitational on Friday, August 30th and on Saturday, August 31st in Kenosha, Wisconsin.
The Men's Soccer team is led by two-time NAIA All-American Honorable Mention selection, Gordy Gurson, and will take to the pitch for the first time in 2013 on Wednesday, August 28th against Bethel College at 7:00 P.M. in Mishawaka, Indiana. That game can be heard live on the Eagle Sports Network. The Eagles also host Cornerstone University (Mich.) on Saturday, August 31st at 1:00 P.M. at Redmond Athletic Complex in Bensenville.
The Women's Volleyball team begins competition under the direction of new Head Coach Melissa Joyce, a former NAIA All-American and RMU's most decorated volleyball player, on Saturday, August 31st in the Midwest Crossroads Challenge. The Eagles open the tournament at 1:00 P.M. versus Indiana University Northwest and then take on Indiana University East at 7:00 P.M. RMU also competes on Sunday, September 1st in the tournament, taking on Alverno College (Wis.) at 10:00 A.M. and Indiana University Kokomo at 1:00 P.M. All matches will be played at The Diggz of Northwest Indiana in Hobart, Indiana.
The 15th ranked Women's Soccer team christens it's new home stadium in renovated Morris Field, by hosting the RMU Invitational on Saturday, August 31st and Sunday, September 1st. Two-time NAIA All-American and 2012 CCAC Conference Player of the Year Florence Dadson, leads the Eagles versus Saint Ambrose University (Iowa) at 12:00 P.M. on Saturday and then against 20th ranked Ashford University at 2:30 P.M. on Sunday. Sunday's game can be heard live on the Eagle Sports Network.
Capping off the exciting opening week of RMU Athletics, Eagles Football has the honor of taking on Ave Maria University (Fla.) in historic Soldier Field on Saturday, August 31st at 4:00 P.M. Tickets are available for $10 (adults) and $6 (students & children) and can be purchased at the Soldier Field Ticket Office on the day of the game and those attending can join the RMU Spirit Squads as they parade from RMU at 1:45 P.M. to Soldier Field. Those unable to attend don't have to miss out on the action, as Eagles fans can watch running back sensation Lamont Wims and the Eagles take on Ave Maria live on the Eagle Sports Network.
Don't miss other exciting RMU Athletic action when Men's Golf kicks off its season next week in the Aurora University Spartan Invitational on Tuesday, September 3rd. The Eagles Cross Country teams begin their 2013 campaign next month on September 13th as they compete in the Illinois Intercollegiate hosted by Olivet Nazarene University in Bourbonnais, Illinois.
