Indianapolis – The top ranked Robert Morris Men's Bowling team lived up to its ranking by winning the NAIA National Invitational on Sunday, March 24th at Woodland Bowl in Indianapolis.
The national tournament featured 24 teams and each team bowled 20 Baker Games on the first day to determine seeding for the Match Play bracket. On Saturday, the competition was double elimination, best-of-five Match Play and RMU went undefeated on the day.
Unfortunately on Sunday, the Eagles lost their first match to Calumet College of St. Joseph (Ind.) and moved into the loser's bracket where they defeated Lindenwood University-Belleville and Webber International University (Fla.) to advance to the title match.
Once again the Eagles found themselves paired up against Calumet College of St. Joseph and needed to defeat the Crimson Wave twice in order to secure the trophy. RMU did just that, winning the first match 3-0 and the second 3-1 to become the 2013 NAIA National Invitational champions. This is the first time in program history that the Eagles have won the NAIA championship. In addition to winning the national title, Marshall Kent was selected to the NAIA Al-Tournament Team.
The Eagles will close out the year at the USBC National Championships in Lincoln, Nebraska during the week of April 15th.
