Montgomery, W.V. – The Robert Morris Men's Basketball team defeated Allen University (S.C.) by the score of 82-62 in the opening round of the Association of Independent Institutions Tournament being held at West Virginia Tech in Montgomery, West Virginia. With the victory, the Eagles raised their record to 17-13 on the year and advanced to the A.I.I. semi-finals to face hosts West Virginia Tech on Saturday, March 2nd. The Eagles jumped out to a 15-8 lead with 15:34 left to play in the first half but Allen battled back to tie the game at 16-16 with 12:48 to go and took its first lead with 11:38 remaining at 19-18. However that lead was short-lived, as RMU regained the lead with 10:16 to play on a Sean Montgomery layup and took charge with a 19-3 run to blow open the game. The Eagles went to the locker room at the half with a 48-29 lead.
RMU stretched the lead to 23 points to open the second half and led by no fewer than 14 points to cruise to the 82-62 victory. Freshman Maurice Williams led the Eagles with 19 points and senior Aubrey McAlpine scored 14 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Joshua Anderson chipped in with 12 points and Brian Bradley and Sean Montgomery both added 11 points.
