Chicago, Ill. - The Robert Morris Women's Swim team competed at the Phoenix Classic this past weekend at the University of Chicago.  Jamie Van Portfliet took down RMU's 200 Backstroke record when she eclipsed the 2:28.84 mark Tori Ribban set last year by over a second, by going 2:27.29.

"Honestly this was one of our weaker records," stated RMU Head Coach Jacob Anderson.  "Most of the other records on the books we set last year at nationals and it will be tough to get those before we taper at the end of the season.  Jamie is primarily a sprint freestyler, not a distance backstroker, but we thought she could drop that mark a bit anyway right now and she did."

Makaylee Fredrick and Rachel Steig are swimming well for the Eagles thus far too.

"Maykaylee is significanly faster than she was at this point of the season than last, and I expect that to continue as the two of them work extremely hard at practice," added Anderson.  "With Rachel, it is fun to see the improvement she is making.  Every time she gets up on the block we are expecting lifetime bests out of her."

The Eagles next compete in the Carthage College Invitational on Friday, November 30th and Saturday, December 1st in Kenosha, Wisconsin.
