Irving Balboa (above) scores in double overtime for first CCAC victory

The Robert Morris Illinois Men's Soccer team got their first CCAC victory as they defeated Holy Cross College (Ind.) 2-1 in 2OT on Tuesday October 3rd at Morris Field.

In the first half, both teams had spurts of opportunities with Andrew Fletcher (SR/Valparaiso, Ind.) stopping a shot in the 3rd minute.  Allen Sanchez (JR/Chicago, Ill.) got a shot away in the 12th minute that was saved.  Irving Balboa (SR/Wheeling, Ill.) in the 28th put a shot in the far corner that was barely saved by the out stretched keeper.  Teams went into halftime tied at 0. 

In the second half, Holy Cross struck first off a free kick from 20 yards out in the 65th minute to take a 1-0 lead.  RMU would respond, in the 69th minute Jason Soalres would launch a shot from 25 yards out from sideline that would curl into the top left corner to tie the match 1-1.  Andrew Fletcher made two saves in the final five minutes to send the match to overtime.

In the first overtime, Holy Cross got off two shots that Andrew Fletcher kept out of the net to send us to a second overtime. 

In the second overtime,   One minute and seven seconds in, RMU sent a bouncing ball across the box that Irving Balboa was able to get ahold of and bury into the back of the net for a walk off goal.   Irving Balboa's first goal of the season gave the Eagles their first CCAC victory of the season. 

RMU is now 2-7 overall and 1-4 in CCAC action.

Eagles will be back in action Saturday October 7th at Saint Xavier University at 2pm.  Next home game will be Homecoming Weekend October 14th at Noon hosting Cardinal Stritch University.
