Sam Sparks (above) scores in the 83rd minute before falling 2-1

The #23 Robert Morris Illinois Women's Soccer team fell 2-1 to #25 MidAmerica Nazarene University (Kan.) Saturday September 2nd at Morris Field.  

In the 3rd minute RMU's Detzi Reveles (SO/Chicago, Ill.) was off to a hot start, and got a shot away just wide to put the pressure on the Pioneers.  MNU struck back in the 7th minute when Steffi Krohn scored off of a 25-yard free kick, just over the outstretched arms of Adrienne Giglio (SR/Belvidere, Ill.), which gave MNU the lead. MNU continued to pepper RMU with shots, and they led the Eagles in shots 12-5 at halftime. In the first half, Adrienne Giglio had 4 of her 11 saves. 

In the second half, RMU dominated possession that led to a shot by Ava Eggert (FR/Tinley Park, Ill.) that sailed wide.  Both teams had chances until the 75th minute when MNU was awarded a penalty kick for a foul in the box, and Steffi Krohn stepped up and scored her second goal of the match.  Down 2-0, in the 83rd minute, Demy Whitaker (SR/Toledo, Ohio) sent a long pass that perfectly bounded to Sam Sparks (FR/Rochester, Ohio). Shooting from the top of the box, Sparks' shot sailed past the goalkeeper's arms and into the back of the goal which cut the Pioneer's lead to a single goal.  The Eagles got one more shot on goal from Maria Campos (SO/Chicago, Ill.) in the 87th minute, but Anesa Curic as able to save it and secure the victory for the Pioneers.

MNU outshot RMU 25-13 in the match.  Shots on goal advantage was 13-4, with Adrienne Giglio making 11 saves on the evening.    

Eagles will be back in action on Sunday September 10th versus Davenport University (Mich.), kickoff scheduled for Noon at Morris Field.
