Volleyball swept both matches on Day 2 of the 2017 Eagle Invite at Robert Morris Athletic and Convocation Center in Arlington Heights, Ill. winning in three sets (25-17, 25-16, 25-20) vs. Rochester College (Mich.) and sweeping Moody Bible Institute (25-15, 25-19, 25-11). The Eagles are now 4-4 on the season after a 4-0 2017 Eagle Invite. 

Match One

The Eagles came flying out of the gate building a quick 14-4 lead led by three aces from Wendy Garcia (SR/San Diego, Calif.) as part of her 7-0 service run.  A kill by Kristin Acciavatti (SR/Wheaton, Ill.) finished off the set 25-17.  

The second set began just like the first as RMU jumped out to a 12-5  lead with Lindsey Veersma (JR/Stanwood, Mich.) dishing assists to all hitters during the run.  Kameron Rouse (SO/Chicago, Ill.) came in and served a 5-0 run led by 2 of Kristin Acciavatti match-high 19 kills to grow the lead to 18-9 and cruised to a final score of 25-16.

In the third set  RMU was up 10-9 when Lindsey Veersma continued her impressive serving on the weekend with another 5-0 serving run, while dishing four of her 31 match-high assists.  Rochester made a run to tie the set up at 20, when Rochester missed their serve.  Hannah Wagner (JR/Lapeer, Mich.) went back to serve the last 4 points of the set finished off by a big block from Kailyn Williams (FR/Wheaton, Ill.) and Jazmin Pruitt (SR/Bellwood, Ill.).

Kristen Acciavatti led the Eagles offensively and defensively with a match-high 19 kills and 13 digs.  DaNesha Cowley (JR/Waterloo, Iowa) chipped in 8 kills while hitting .429.  Lindsey Veersma dished out a match-high 31 assists and match-high 19 digs.  Wendy Garcia served up 3 aces, six assists, and 16 digs in the win. Eagles climbed to 3-4 overall. 

Match Two

In match two the Eagles took on Moody Bible Institute (Ill.), RMU jumped to a 6-1 lead from five Moody Bible hitting errors. Moody Bible got their offense flowing tying the set up at 10.  A 4-0 run with Kamila Zieba (FR/Chicago, Ill.) serving extended the lead for 14-10 after a kill by DaNesha Cowley.  With the score 17-14, RMU finished on a 8-1 run on two aces by Wendy Garcia to win set one 25-15.   

The second set RMU raced to a 10-4 lead with a Wendy Garcia ace forcing a Moody Bible timeout.  Kristin Acciavatti put down two of her match-high 11 kills to extend the lead to 21-14.  The Eagles finished the set on a kill by Lindsey Veersma 25-19. 

RMU looking for its second sweep of the day raced out to a 10-3 lead with Hannah Wagner putting down 4 of her 11 match-high kills.  Moody Bible would never get closer than seven, with the Eagles cruising to a 25-11 third set win, with Grace Konovodoff (JR/Sugar Grove, Ill.) serving the last three points of the match.   

Lindsey Veersma dished out a match-high 28 assists to go along with her five kills and seven digs.  Hannah Wagner led the way with 11 kills and 5 digs.  While, Kristin Acciavatti continued her hot weekend matching the 11 kills with 7 digs and 5 block assists.  DaNesha Cowley was a force at the net with 5 block assists and four kills.  RMU improved to 4-4 overall on the season. 

The Eagles being CCAC play September 7th at 7pm at Rossevelt University in Chicago, Ill.  Next home match is September 12th at 7pm vs. Saint Xavier University.
