The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) released the 2017 NAIA Football Preseason Coaches' Top 25 Poll and Robert Morris Illinois is ranked 13th, finishing 30 points behind 12th ranked Missouri Valley in the voting.

The Eagles were also rated 15th in the 2016 postseason poll and 2017 Spring poll after making their first-ever appearance in the in the NAIA Football Championship Series, losing to then top-ranked Marian University (Ind.) in the opening round.  RMU also won its first-ever Mid-States Football Association Midwest League title in 2016.

The University of Saint Francis (Ind.) held on to the top spot in the voting after winning its first NAIA National Championship, while Baker University (Kan.), Reinhardt University (Ga.), Morningside (Iowa), and Marian rounded out the top five of the poll.

RMU opens the 2017 season on Saturday, August 26th at 2pm versus Bacone College (Okla.) at Morris Field.
