GULF SHORES, Ala. – The Robert Morris Illinois Men's and Women's Track & Field teams had three student-athletes compete in the NAIA Outdoor National Championships at Mickey Blackwell Stadium in Gulf Shores, Alabama from May 25th to May 27th.

Deion Carter (SR/Calumet Park, Ill.) competed in two events at the national meet, finishing 17th in the 100 Meters and 20th in the 200 Meters.  His 10.58 second time in the 100 Meters was a new RMU school record and he ends his Eagle career with school records also in the 60 Meters, 200 Meters, 400 Meters, 400 Meter Hurdles, Long Jump, Distance Medley Relay, and 4x400 Meter Relay.  In addition, the senior was a two-time NAIA National Outdoor Championships qualifier, four-time CCAC All-Conference selection, and 2014 CCAC Conference Outstanding Athlete of the Year in his sport.

Alejandro Garcia (SR/Waukegan, Ill) just missed out on earning NAIA All-American honors by one place in the 1,500 Meters, finishing in ninth with a time of 3:56.  The senior closes out his outstanding collegiate career holding RMU records in the 800 Meters, 1,000 Meters, 1,500 Meters, 5,000 Meters, 3,000 Meter Steeple Chase, Distance Medley Relay, and 4x400 Meter Relay.  Garcia was also a two-time NAIA Indoor All-American in the 1,000 Meters and Mile, two-time NAIA Outdoor National Championships qualifier, and three-time CCAC All-Conference team member.

Celeste Ibarra (SO/Cicero, Ill. ) also participated at the national meet, competing for the first time in the Marathon.  Battling very hot and humid temperatures, the sophomore was unfortunately unable to finish the race, but she finished the season with school records in the 3,000 Meters, 10,000 Meters, and the Half-Marathon.

"We had an incredible season and I am very proud of how we performed at the NAIA National Championships," said RMU Head Coach Paul Zavala. "Both Deion and Alejandro helped establish the start of our men's track & field program four years ago, and we will be forever grateful for all of their hard work over the years."
