BENSENVILLE, Ill. – The Robert Morris Illinois Baseball team dropped a doubleheader to CCAC Conference South Division leader Olivet Nazarene University, losing 3-2 and 8-7 on Tuesday, April 25th at Memorial Field.  The losses dropped the Eagles' conference record to 14-10 and their overall record to 25-23 overall.

Olivet Nazarene took a 1-0 lead in the first inning of the opening game with the help of a RMU error and a wild pitch.  However, the Eagles answered with two runs in the bottom half, as Corey Krupske (JR/Tinley Park, Ill.) led off with a walk and scored on a Jimmy Smyth (FR/Oak Forest, Ill.) double.  Cam Bass (JR/Chicago, Ill.) came through with a base hit later in the inning to drive in Smyth for the advantage.

Unfortunately, those would be the only runs the Eagles would score while the Tigers pushed a run across in both the third and sixth innings for the 3-2 win.  Brandon Hickey (JR/Monee, Ill.) took the loss to fall to 3-5 on the year despite a good outing, going all seven innings and allowing just one earned run on four hits to go with five strikeouts and a walk.

In game two, Eagles' starter Cory Renois (SR/Belleville, Ill. ) made quick work to get the first two Olivet Nazarene batters out on just two pitches.  However, the senior ran into a little trouble and walked the next four batters to force in a run.  The Tigers added two more runs in the second inning to lead 3-0, but the Eagles got one back in the bottom half of the inning.  Jalen Cox (JR/Sturgis, Mich.) walked to begin the inning, moved to third on a base hit by Matt Vitulli (SR/Bartlett, Ill.), and scored on a sacrifice fly from Brian Czyl (SR/Lisle, Ill.).  Renois settled down and pitched scoreless innings in the third, fifth, and sixth with the Tigers adding a run in the fourth for a 4-1 lead.

The Eagles exploded for six runs in the fifth inning to come back and take a 7-4 lead.  Corey Krupske doubled home Donte Richie (JR/Chicago, Ill.), who pinch ran for Czyl, and Matt Cole (JR/Richton Park, Ill.) doubled to left field to bring in Krupske and Chase Armstrong (SR/Lexington, Ky.).  Bass followed with a triple to right center to score pinch runner Alex Maka (JR/Oak Forest, Ill.) and Bass came home on a base hit by Cox.  A wild pitch moved Cox into scoring position and Vitulli smacked a single to right to drive in the RMU first baseman to close out the scoring.

Olivet Nazarene came back with three runs on three hits in the seventh to tie the game at 7-7.  In the ninth inning, the Tigers got a runner to second base on a single and an error, and moved him over to third on a sacrifice bunt.  Ryan Campbell then laid down bunt and the Tigers scored the eventual winning run on the perfectly executed squeeze play.  Tom Jager Jr. (FR/Oak Forest, Ill.) suffered the loss in relief, allowing two runs with one earned in 2 2/3 innings pitched.

RMU concludes the CCAC Conference regular season this weekend versus CCAC North Division leader, Judson University.  The two teams will square off in a single, nine-inning game at 4pm on Friday, April 28th in Elgin, Illinois and then play a doubleheader on Saturday, April 29th beginning at 1pm at Memorial Field.  Fans can follow all games live on the Eagle Sports Network.
