Men's Volleyball-CH - Wed, Jan. 11, 2017

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics has released the 2017 NAIA Men's Volleyball Coaches' Preseason Top 10 Poll and Robert Morris Illinois will begin the season rated sixth in the rankings.  The Eagles closed out the 2016 season rated ninth in the NAIA Postseason Top 10.

Defending NAIA National Champions Missouri Baptist University tops the preseason poll, while Grand View University (Iowa), Warner University (Fla.), Lourdes University (Ohio), and Park University (Mo.) round out the top five of the voting.  Fellow CCAC Conference member Saint Ambrose University (Iowa) is rated eighth and Cardinal Stritch University (Wis.) is also receiving votes for the poll.

Head Coach Sean Ostrander begins his second season at the helm of RMU Men's Volleyball after leading the Eagles to a school record 31 wins in his first season, along with runner-up finishes in both the CCAC Conference regular season and CCAC Tournament. Ostrander earned 2016 CCAC Conference Coach of the Year honors for his team's accomplishments.

RMU has a strong core returning from last year's record-setting team, including three CCAC All-Conference First Team selections in Dalton Tucker (SR/White Hall, Ill.), Bobby Ying (SO/Fresno, Calif.), and Paris McFall (SR/Maywood, Ill.).  Tucker comes off an outstanding 2016 season, where led the NAIA in total digs (431) and was second in digs per set (3.5) in route to earning CCAC Conference C-Defensive Player of the Year honors.  Ying was named the CCAC Newcomer of the Year after finishing second in the conference and fourth in the nation in total assists (1,147).  McFall led the Eagles with 398 total kills, which was second in the CCAC and sixth in the NAIA in 2016.

"We're looking forward to build on the foundation that we started last season," said RMU Head Coach Sean Ostrander.  "Being ranked sixth in the preseason poll is great, but now we need to prove to everyone we deserve to be ranked that high. I expect this season to set new standards for our program with the expectation of qualifying for the NAIA National Tournament for the first time and continuously in the future."

The Eagles open the 2017 season in the Culver-Stockton College Men's Volleyball Challenge on Friday, January 13th and Saturday, January 14th in Canton, Missouri.  RMU takes on NCAA Division I member Quincy University at 4:30pm on Friday, and then faces Culver-Stockton at 9:30am and Lindenwood University-Belleville at 12pm on Saturday.
