Anika Johnson & Amber Jennings each scored 16 points in the win!

DAVENPORT, Iowa – The Robert Morris Women's Basketball team won its second straight CCAC Conference contest with a 76-68 road victory over Saint Ambrose University (Iowa) on Thursday, January 5th.  The Eagles are now 2-5 in the CCAC and 4-13 overall this season.

RMU jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead on a three-point play by Victoria Harris (SR/Bellwood, Ill.), but the Fighting Bees came back to take a 12-7 advantage at the end of the first quarter.  Saint Ambrose pushed its margin to as large as 12 points in the second quarter, but RMU went on an 8-0 run, fueled by two three-pointers by Anika Johnson (FR/Chicago, Ill.), late in the period to trail 34-30 with 1:27 left in the first half.  However, the Fighting Bees closed out the second quarter with a 39-32 half-time lead.

Saint Ambrose went ahead by as many as 10 points on four occasions during the third quarter, but the Eagles once again battled back, this time cutting the deficit to 51-49 with 2:08 to go in the stanza.  Aaliyah Irby (SR/Chicago, Ill.) connected on a jumper to pull RMU to within 54-53 heading into the final 10 minutes of the contest. 

Early in the fourth quarter, Amber Jennings (JR/Oldsmar, Fla.) hit a pair of free throws to give RMU a 57-56 lead, its first lead since early in the first quarter, and Johnson hit back-to-back jumpers to push the lead to 61-56 with 7:39 to go.  Saint Ambrose tied the game late at 68-68 with 1:35 remaining in the game, but the Eagles took over from here with an 8-0 run to close out the 76-68 conference victory.

Amber Jennings and Anika Johnson led the Eagles with 16 points each, while Victoria Harris added 15 points.  Aaliyah Irby posted a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds and Jannah Mahmoud (JR/Oak Lawn, Ill.) pulled down a game-high 14 rebounds in the win.

The Eagles continue CCAC Conference action on Saturday, January 7th when they host Holy Cross College (Ind.) at the RMU Athletic & Convocation Center.  Tip-off is scheduled for 1pm and fans can follow the contest via live audio and stats on the Eagle Sports Network.
