Women's Swimming and Diving-CH - Mon, Mar. 5, 2012

Oklahoma City, Okla. - The 32nd NAIA Women's Swimming & Diving National Championships took place February 29th through March 5th and Robert Morris finished in 15th place.  There were a total of 18 schools competing in the event and it was the first time that the Eagles have scored in the championships.

The Eagles were represented at the NAIA National Championships by junior Victoria Aguilar (Chicago, IL), sophomore Ariel Hesse (Tinley Park, IL), and freshmen Makaylee Frederick (Odessa, TX) and Jamie Van Portfliet (Rockford, MI).  Aguilar and Hesse became the first Eagles to individually score, with Aguilar finishing 13th in the 200 breast stroke with a time of 2:30.39 and Hesse 15th in the 1650 free with a time of 18:45.66.

"I think the girls had a great couple of weeks at the end of the season and peaked at the right time," said Eagles Head Coach Jake Anderson.  "Vicky (Aguilar) went from not even qualifying for the national meet a week ago, to finishing 13th in the 200 breaststroke, the highest finish ever for a swimmer at RMU.  She has a toughness about her that I think will make her one of the best in the breaststroke at nationals next year.  Ariel Hesse also ended up scoring in the 1650, finishing 15th by dropping a huge amount of time.  I can't say enough about Jamie and Makaylee, who both have worked hard all season long and qualified in the very deep sprint events along with being the real strength of our relays.  Both of those freshmen have different but complimenting leadership skills that will help this team really thrive in the years to come."

This year's team also set 16 new RMU program records.  Click here to view RMU's all-time swimming & diving records!
